The Whiteny Museum of American Art, is paying homage to Yayoi Kusama with a retrospective that features works spanning her career, and will be on display from July 12 – September 30.
Kusama was born in Japan in 1929, and came to the United States at the age of 28, where she found herself at the epicenter of the New York avant-garde. With her ground breaking exhibitions and art “happenings,” she had achieved success. After reaching fame, she returned to her native country in 1973 and is now one of Japan’s most prominent contemporary artists.
She is well known for her use of dense patterns of polka dots and nets, as well as her intense, large-scale environments, In Yayoi Kusama work she uses a variety of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, film, performance, and immersive installation.
There are still a few months to catch the retrospective of one of the most famous artists to come out of Japan; you DEFINITELY don’t want to miss this!
